Mortgage Rate Alerts

Two ways to follow rates. Pick a number and get one email when the daily 30-year index reaches it, or get the short weekday update each morning. Or both.

Get rate alerts

Choose the 30-year rate you're waiting for, 'any drop' to hear when the index falls an eighth of a point or more in a week, or tick the weekday update to get the day's numbers every morning.

The weekday update

Each weekday morning, after the day's figures post, subscribers get one short email: the 30-year and 15-year conventional figures plus FHA and VA, all from Mortgage News Daily, the day's change, a line on what moved the market, and a link to the full update on this site. No email on weekends or market holidays. It is the same content as the daily update page, delivered so you do not have to come looking for it.

How rate alerts work

Every weekday morning we take the Mortgage News Daily 30-year fixed index, the same figure shown in this site's rate table and in the weekday update, and check it against the level you chose. If it has reached your number, you get one email that day with the figure. If you picked "any drop", the email comes when the index sits an eighth of a point (0.125) or more below where it was a week earlier. Either way it is at most one alert email in a week, and nothing on the days in between.

Rate alerts and the weekday update are separate lists. Pick one or both; there is no marketing sequence attached to either, and every email has an unsubscribe link.

What the number means

The index is a daily average built from lender rate sheets, published each business day by Mortgage News Daily. It is a benchmark for direction, not a quote: the rate available on any specific loan depends on credit score, down payment, loan type, property and occupancy, and can only come from a licensed originator after reviewing the scenario. Freddie Mac's weekly survey still appears on this site as a reference line under the chart; alerts use the daily index because it reflects the most recent business day's close, while the weekly survey lags by several days. When your alert fires, that day's update on this site explains what moved the market.
